Dancehall is an electric genre of music that began in the late 1970’s and evolved out reggae sounds, later combining with digital instrumentation and growing to what is heard today. With sound naturally came the movement. Starting with variations of whining and then the butterfly, in the early 90’s, the butterfly was popularized by Dancehall Queen Carlene and soon afterthe foundation for which dancehall sits on was created by the father of dancehall, Mr. Wacky aka Bogle with our ‘Back 2 Basics’. As the dance genre continues to grow through the eras, (old skool, middle skool and new skool), it holds on to its African roots, freedom of expression and raw style.
